Cars from four manufacturers still in the title race. Championship leader Denny Berndt has his sights set on another race win. Sunday’s race live on free TV on SPORT1.
The stage is set for the penultimate round of the 2026 season in ADAC GT4 Germany. The venue is the Sachsenring, near Chemnitz. The spectacular 3.645-kilometre circuit is one of the favourites among the drivers – and the title contenders will be hungry to score valuable points there, as they jostle for position ahead of the finale at the Hockenheimring in mid-October. The top three in the championship are separated by just 14 points. At the very top of the table are Denny Berndt (21/Berlin) and Lachlan Robinson (23/AUS, both AVIA W&S Motorsport). However, their closest rivals Jan Philipp Springob (25/Olpe) und Philipp Gogollok (20/Bad Homburg, both COSY Racing by ESM), and third-placed Gabriele Piana (40/ITA) and Benjamin Sylvestersson (19/FIN, both FK Performance Motorsport) will be looking to make life difficult for the duo in the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4. That naturally promises to produce plenty of drama. As usual, ADAC GT4 Germany starts on the support programme for the DTM. Tickets for the Sachsenring start at € 49 and are available at dtm.com. Free-to-air TV station SPORT1 is broadcasting Sunday’s race live from 15:00 to 16:30, and the Saturday race in a livestream from 15:05 at SPORT1.de. ServusTV On is also streaming the race. Berndt and Robinson travel to Saxony with plenty of momentum. The Porsche drivers won the Sunday race last time out at the Nürburgring. “I am looking forward to the really short journey,” says Berlin-based Berndt. “The atmosphere created by the spectators at the Sachsenring is always awesome. That is what brings our sport to life. We want to do everything in our power to give the visitors a great weekend. It is particularly important to look after the tyres. Our sporting goal is the podium, and to score as many points as possible.”
Springob and Gogollok head to the Sachsenring trailing the leaders by just six points. They also tasted success at the Nürburgring in the Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4. The Sachsenring is always a special venue for their team EastSide Motorsport. Based in nearby Crimmitschau, the team will have plenty of guests at its home circuit. “The layout of the Sachsenring should really suit us, as it has many long and fast corners. We come into the weekend in a good position, and want to make the transition from hunter to hunted – in other words, to leave as championship leaders. The best way to do that will be with podiums,” says a determined Gogollok. “It is always nice to experience the team’s home race. There are many guests there to cheer us on. My partner also comes from very close to the circuit. As such, there will be a lot of emotion on show. That will drive us on even more.”
Third-placed Piana and Sylvestersson are just 14 points off the lead in their BMW M4 GT4. Piana, in particular, always looks forward to the Sachsenring, where he won the Sunday race last year. He still regards his outstanding display in 2023, when he pulled off countless overtaking manoeuvres, as one of the best of his career. The fourth and fifth-placed pairings are also still in the race for the title in ADAC GT4 Germany. Alon Gabbay (22/ISR) and Maximilian Schreyer (17/Marburg, both AVIA W&S Motorsport, Porsche) must overturn a 27-point deficit. Lucas Cartelle (18/BEL) and Hudson Schwartz (17/USA, both CRT) are 31 points off the leaders in their Toyota GR Supra GT4. As such, cars from four different manufacturers occupy the top five positions in the table. This not only speaks volumes for the strength in depth within ADAC GT4 Masters, but also promises to produce some thrilling and entertaining racing as the season reaches a dramatic conclusion.
