The iconic Swabian brand has featured in every ADAC GT4 Germany race to date. A new GT4 model will take its place on the grid from 2027, based for the first time on the 911 platform.
Big GT4 news from Porsche: the famous sports car manufacturer will line up with a new race car in the 2027 season – the 911 GT4 R. The car is powered by a 4-litre, six-cylinder Boxer engine and generates up to 520 hp. For the first time ever, Porsche’s GT4 racer is not derived from the 718 Cayman, but the 911. A version of the 911 is also used in GT3 racing, such as in the DTM and the ADAC GT Masters.
“Our move to introduce the 911 platform to the GT4 category underlines the growing importance of this class in international motorsport. GT4 has developed from an entry-level segment to a highly-competitive, globally-relevant racing platform,” says Thomas Laudenbach (Head of Porsche Motorsport).
When developing the 911 GT4 R, Porsche used the technical basis from the current Cup racer (Porsche 911 Cup). Compared to the previous GT4 cars based on the 718 Cayman, the 911 GT4 R has a more powerful power unit, larger tracks and advanced motorsport electronics. All of the above will not only improve lap times, but also have a positive effect on handling and stability.
As well as the racing engine, the six-speed sequential gearbox also comes from the 911 Cup. Paddles on the steering wheel are used to shift gear. Furthermore, a four-disc racing clutch has also been installed. The maximum torque generated by the drive system is 470 newton metres. The 911 GT4 R comes with air intake restrictors, which result in a reduction to 430 hp. This is with the Balance of Performance in mind, which is used in GT4 racing.
Visually, the 911 GT4 R is again modelled after the 911 Cup, and has adopted significant chassis structures. Another focus is obviously sustainability. With this in mind, natural fibre reinforced plastic is used in combination with epoxy resin in such elements as the doors, bonnet and aerodynamic components, as well as areas of the cockpit.
Porsche is currently the most successful manufacturer in ADAC GT4 Germany. The various different versions of the Cayman have won 22 of the 86 races held so far, giving them a win rate of more than 25 percent. Furthermore, a Porsche has started from pole position on 18 occasions.
