Nürburgring kicks off business end of the season

Cars from five manufacturers in the top six of the overall standings. Local favourite Jan Philipp Springob has sights set on another race win. SPORT1 brings Sunday's race to free TV.

ADAC GT4 Germany kicks off the second half of the season at the Nürburgring this weekend (14th to 16th August). The racing will take place on the flowing sprint circuit, which is always popular with the drivers. With three events remaining, the event in the Eifel region will give the first indication of how the title race may pan out. The table has a very special look to it going into the race weekend at the Nürburgring, with cars from five different manufacturers all promisingly placed in the overall standings. All of the above promises to produce real drama. As usual, the series lines up on the support programme for the DTM, guaranteeing big crowds. Tickets for the Nürburgring start at € 49 and are available at dtm.com. SPORT1 is broadcasting the Sunday race on free TV from 15:00 to 16:30, while Saturday's race will be streamed live from 15:05 on SPORT1.de. ServusTV On is also streaming the races. The qualifying sessions will be broadcast live from 09:00 on Saturday on Joyn and the ADAC Motorsport channel youtube.com/adacmotorsports.

Gabriele Piana (39/ITA) and Benjamin Sylvestersson (19/FIN, both FK Performance Motorsport) travel to the Eifel as championship leaders. The BMW M4 GT4 drivers have amassed 101 points, but still only hold a slender lead. Denny Berndt (21/Berlin) and Lachlan Robinson (22/AUS, both AVIA W&S Motorsport) trail by just one point in the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4. Ten points off the lead are Jan Philipp Springob (25/Olpe) and Philipp Gogollok (20/Bad Homburg, both COSY Racing by ESM), who recently claimed their second victory of the season in the Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 in Oschersleben. "The Nürburgring is my home event, which always makes it very special. I am expecting more than one hundred guests at the weekend. As such, I obviously want to deliver some good results," says Springob, looking ahead to the weekend. "The big goal for this year is to win the title, so we want to be challenging for victory in both races. The layout of the Nürburgring should suit our Aston Martin. Ideally we will score so many points at the Nürburgring and then the Sachsenring that we travel to the finale in Hockenheim with a lead."

Alon Gabbay (22/ISR) and Maximilian Schreyer (17/Marburg, both AVIA W&S Motorsport) are also well placed in the title race in another Porsche, and will be looking to make inroads into their deficit of 17 points. "I am really looking forward to the Nürburgring. Along with Hockenheim, this is my home circuit. I used to go there regularly as a kid, to cheer on my father. Last year, I finally had the honour of racing at the Nürburgring myself. I particularly like the AMG Arena and the chicane on the home straight," says Schreyer. "After a difficult weekend in Oschersleben, we want to challenge for the win again. We are confident that we can do precisely that."

One point further back are Lucas Cartelle (18/BEL) and Hudson Schwartz (17/USA, both CRT). The two youngsters, at the wheel of a Toyota GR Supra GT4, won the Sunday race in Oschersleben and are hungry to back up that success in the Eifel Mountains. The Nürburgring is also the home circuit for the Toyota, which was developed at Toyota Racing's European headquarters in Cologne-Marsdorf. The model claimed its maiden victory in ADAC GT4 Germany at the Nürburgring in 2022.

Prosport Racing is based just a few kilometres from the Nürburgring. The team from Wiesemscheid lines up in ADAC GT4 Germany with a Mercedes-AMG GT4, driven by Roman Fellner-Feldegg (24/Landsberg am Lech) and Marek Böckmann (29/Lautersheim). The duo lies sixth in the table, still promisingly positioned in the title race. In BMW, Porsche, Aston Martin, Toyota and Mercedes-AMG, five different manufacturers are represented in the top six of the overall standings. As such, spectators can look forward to an entertaining race weekend. And there's more: Razoon - more than Racing will run a third car. At the wheel of the Porsche will be the returning Damon Surzyshyn (49/CAN) and Jack James (20/GBR). Newcomer Gregor Schneider (48/GER) will take James' place alongside Hamis Forrest (17/GBR).
