Maserati Corse is developing a GT4 race car, based on the GranTurismo and driven by a V6 engine. Maserati enjoys a grand tradition in GT4 racing.

The GT4 class continues to boom: after Porsche recently presented a new race car in line with GT4 regulations – the 911 GT4 R – Maserati is now also looking to return to the class. The Italian brand unveiled a GT4 project at the iconic Goodwood Festival of Speed, with the goal being to put a GT4 race car on the track in 2028. The basis for the new car is the Maserati GranTurismo. The car will be developed by Maserati Corse- the racing division of the Italian manufacturer.

The drive train and chassis of the Maserati Project GT4 have been derived directly from the road-going model. Providing the grunt will be a 3.0-litre V6 engine with pre-chamber combustion technology taken from Formula 1. The GT4 version will weigh roughly 400 kilograms less than the production version of the GranTurismo.

“The GT4 project represents a natural step in the development of the Maserati Corse programme, and completes our vision for the future of GT racing,” says Vincent Biard (Head of Maserati Corse). “Our goal is clear: We want to develop a car that is competitive, reliable and accessible for teams and drivers who opt for Maserati. Development has only just started, but we are already working towards lining up in the 2028 season with a car that can compete at the highest level and challenge for success.”

Maserati is one of the manufacturers who have been involved in international GT4 racing since day one. Back in 2007, Maserati raced in the European GT4 series. Since then, it has developed numerous race cars in line with GT4 regulations. However, there has yet to be a Maserati on the grid in ADAC GT4 Germany. Maybe all that will change in 2028.
