Double pole position for Porsche at the Norisring

Lachlan Robinson and Alon Gabbay from AVIA W&S Motorsport will each start one of the two ADAC GT4 Germany races at the Norisring from the front of the grid. Porsche, Mercedes-AMG, Toyota and Ginetta on the front two rows.

The two qualifying sessions for ADAC GT4 Germany at the second race weekend of the season produced some thrilling action at the Norisring. Porsche ultimately came out on top in the two intense sessions at the 2.162-kilometre street circuit in the south of Nuremberg. Lachlan Robinson (22/AUS) of AVIA W&S Motorsport secured pole position for Saturday’s race in a 718 Cayman GT4. His team-mate Alon Gabbay (22/ISR) will be the man to catch in race two on Sunday.

“After Friday’s practice, it was clear to us that we would be strong here and could have a say in qualifying,” said Robinson, who shares the Porsche with Denny Berndt (21/Berlin), after his qualifying lap of 52.866 seconds. “In the race, it will initially be important to drive carefully, as there are not really many run-off zones here. As such, anything can happen. Qualifying has put us in the best starting position. Let’s see what happens now.”

Second place in the first qualifying session, just 0.060 seconds slower than Robinson, went to team-mates Alon Gabbay (22/ISR) and Maximilian Schreyer (17/Marburg), with Schreyer at the wheel for the race against the clock. Third fastest were Roman Fellner-Feldegg (24/Landsberg am Lech) and Marek Böckmann (29/Lautersheim, both Prosport Racing), who missed out on pole by 0.401 seconds. They were followed by Lucas Cartelle (18/BEL) and Hudson Schwartz (17/USA, both CRT) in a Toyota GR Supra GT4.

There were more celebrations for AVIA W&S Motorsport after qualifying for the Sunday race. The team from Baden-Württemberg landed three Porsche in the first three places on the grid. Alon Gabbay took pole position with a time of 52.951 seconds. “I am obviously thrilled, as I will be starting from the front of the grid for the very first time in ADAC GT4 Germany,” said a beaming Gabbay. “We are now in a very good position going into both races, and will really go for it. Our clear goal is two wins.”

Denny Berndt ended the second qualifying seconds just 0.033 seconds behind Gabbay in second place. Third went to team-mates Hendrik Still (38/Kempenich) and Tim Horrell (35/USA), who were 0.204 seconds off the pole time. Rounding out the top four were Alexzander Kristiansson (26/SWE) and Erik Bertilsson (25/SWE, both KRT Racing) in a Ginetta G56 GT4.

Saturday’s ADAC GT4 Germany race gets underway at 15:10 and will be streamed live and in full on youtube.com/adacmotorsports, SPORT1.de, ServusTV On and Joyn.
