Springob tops Free Practice 2 in an Aston Martin

The COSY Racing by ESM was unbeatable in the second free practice in ADAC GT4 Germany at the Red Bull Ring. Evenly-matched field with all four manufacturers in the top four.

Free Practice 2 in ADAC GT4 Germany at the Red Bull Ring was a closely-contested affair. At the end of an exciting session, it was Jan Philipp Springob (24/Olpe), at the wheel of an Aston Martin Vantage GT4 for Cosy Racing by ESM, who came out on top with a time of 1:37.386 minutes. “We are super happy to be out in front,” said a beaming Springob, who shares the cockpit with Storm Gjerdrum (16/NOR). “To be fair, however, we have to say that we were on a set of tyres that had hardly seen any action at a previous race weekend, so they were almost new. For this reason, it is hard to judge how we really fared, as the opposition presumably used older tyres. Despite that, we are looking forward to the race. The goal is to finish in the top five.”

In second place, just 0.069 seconds slower, was the Mercedes-AMG GT4 of championship leaders Enrico Förderer (18/Leuterod) and Jay Mo Härtling (22/Sprockhövel, both SR Motorsport by Schnitzelalm). Härtling had previously set a time of 1:36.877 minutes in FP1, making him the day’s fastest driver in ADAC GT4 Germany at the Red Bull Ring.

Third place in Free Practice 2 went to Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 drivers Raphael Rennhofer (18/AUT) and Emil Heyerdahl (23/NOR, both Wimmer Werk Motorsport), who came up just 0.076 seconds short of the top time. Rounding out the top four were Gabriele Piana (39/ITA) and Berkay Besler (25/TUR, both FK Performance Motorsport), who are currently second in the table. The BMW M4 GT4 duo were 0.137 seconds off Springob’s time. The top four places were occupied by cars from each of the four manufacturers, which again speaks volumes for how evenly matched the series is.

Fifth fastest were Cedric Fuchs (19/Holzappel) and Joel Mesch (21/Erkelenz, both SR Motorsport by Schnitzelalm) in another Mercedes-AMG. Saturday’s ADAC GT4 Germany action starts at 09:40 with the two qualifying sessions. They are followed at 16:25 by race one.
