Schnitzelalm: “We are motorsport enthusiasts”

Thomas Angerer’s team currently leads all the classifications in ADAC GT4 Germany. SR Motorsport by Schnitzelalm is passionate about motorsport and has grand ambitions.

SR Motorsport by Schnitzelalm has very definitely made its mark on the 2025 ADAC GT4 Germany season so far. Four races have been held – and all four have been won by Enrico Förderer (18/Leuterod) and Jay Mo Härtling (22/Sprockhövel), who consequently top the table with 100 points. Cedric Fuchs (19/Holzappel), who shares the team’s second Mercedes-AMG GT4 with Joel Mesch (20/Erkelenz), also won the Rookie competition on two occasions. “From a sporting perspective, I think it is really excellent here. The races produce great entertainment,” says team principal Thomas Angerer. “The standard in ADAC GT4 Germany is extremely high. Behind the DTM and the ADAC GT Masters, this is basically the third division of German motorsport.”

Angerer has always focussed on car racing. “Motorsport has always been my great passion. My father used to race at hillclimbs, so I have spent my entire life around motorsport. Up until 2004, I was working for Abt Sportsline. However, I always dreamed of launching my own team,” Angerer recalls. “Initially, however, I went independent in the gastronomy business with Schnitzelalm, and was away from motorsport for seven years. The racing team was finally formed in 2011 – with the focus on karting at first.”

Schnitzelalm Racing them moved into automobile racing in 2019, gaining its first experience with a BMW M240i. Success soon followed. As early as 2020, the team claimed a class victory with the BMW at the Nürburgring 24 Hours. The move to GT4 racing came at the start of the 2021 season. In 2022, the team started in ADAC GT4 Germany and claimed its maiden race win at the Nürburgring weekend. From 2023, the programme was expanded to include GT3 racing, and the team contested its first ADAC GT Masters race in 2024. “I have always dedicated myself to youngsters in motorsport. It is also very important to me that we maintain our allegiance to, and continue to drive, German motorsport. With that in mind, racing in the ADAC series is the obvious choice,” says Angerer.

The team returned to ADAC GT4 Germany for the 2025 season. This year, it lines up under the title SR Motorsport by Schnitzelalm. Nowadays, the team works out of two sites. “Our main headquarters, which is the mainstay of our operations, is located in Bad Hindelang in the Allgäu. We also have a small workshop for karting there,” says Angerer. “However, we decided to choose a location that was better logistically for automobile racing – and acquired a large workshop in Niederzissen in the Eifel region.”

Schnitzelalm also set up a young driver academy in Niederzissen, with the goal being to pave the way into motorsport for young people. “We want to use the academy to convey certain values to the drivers, and to show what motorsport is all about,” Angerer explains. The content at the academy also includes technical aspects. For example, the race cars are sometimes prepared by the drivers themselves. “We are not trendy types, but hardcore motorsport enthusiasts. We live for this dream seven days a week, 24 hours a day.“

“The team now has nine permanent employees, who look after the eleven active race cars,” Angerer says. “On race weekends we are also joined by Günter Aberer, a freelancer who takes responsibility for the technical side of the GT cars. And it goes without saying that my wife and I are always at the racetrack too. If needed, we bring in additional freelancers.”

As well as topping the table in the Driver, Junior and Rookie competitions, SR Motorsport by Schnitzelalm also leads the way in the Team classification. “Whenever we travel to the racetrack, we obviously want to win. That is in our DNA,” says Angerer, describing the goals for the rest of the season. “The opposition in ADAC GT4 Germany is extremely strong. Our rivals are high class. It will obviously be down to our own work, but we naturally want to challenge for the title.”

Angerer is more than satisfied with what his team has achieved in recent years. “The way we are set up as a team, we have basically already come further than we ever imagined,” he says proudly. “For me personally, another grand dream is to take overall victory at the Nürburgring 24 Hours. Plus, I would like the team to start in the DTM at some point. I find the DTM absolutely fascinating. It is a childhood dream and the top class of German motorsport. Whether we can really achieve both, only time will tell.”
