The iconic team from the Eifel region lines up with two Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 in the 2025 ADAC GT4 Germany season. Team principal Chris Esser gives an insight into his successful team.
ADAC GT4 Germany has been around since 2019 – and there has actually only been one team that has contested at least one race weekend in all seven seasons. That team is Prosport, which is based in Wiesemscheid, near the Nürburgring. “ADAC GT4 Germany just suits our concept perfectly. Drivers and their sponsors want to be involved in the series, and so we go racing here,” explains team principal Chris Esser. “Furthermore, the races are, as a rule, really exciting and the competition is fascinating.”
Prosport was launched as a racing team in 2005. However, its roots go back much further. “I was working in a large car dealership in 1988. The managing director at the time was a big motorsport fan and had a tuning project with an Audi, on which I was involved. The tuning area of that dealership was already called Prosport,” says Esser, explaining the origin of the name. “I ultimately took over and led that area in 1992 – but motorsport was initially just on the side and more of a hobby than anything. However, it turned professional in 2006 and we started with a Seat in the VLN.”
At first, Prosport’s racing was limited to the Nordschleife. Then, in 2012, the team switched to GT4 racing and took to the European stage. In that first year, the team won the Team competition in the GT4 European Series and finished third in the Drivers’ Championship with a Porsche 911 GT4, which was based on the 997 Cup. In 2015, Prosport developed its own GT4 Cayman and again won the title in the GT4 European Series with that very car. The project expanded globally. For example, the team took class victory at the 12-hour race in Bathurst, Australia. It also won races and titles in the 24H Series, run by Dutch organisation Creventic, in various cars including a Mercedes-AMG GT3.
Since 2017, the team from Wiesemscheid has been active on the ADAC platform. It initially ran the Audi RS3 LMS for two years in ADAC TCR Germany, where the team’s drivers included Sheldon van der Linde, who went on to be crowned DTM champion. The switch to Aston Martin came in 2019. And with it came success: Prosport Racing helped Hugo Sasse and Mike David Ortmann to the Driver title in ADAC GT4 Germany in 2022 and 2023. As well as GT4 racing, Prosport is also involved on the GT3 scene with the Aston Martin Vantage, competing in races on the Nordschleife and in the ADAC GT Masters.
Prosport consists of three divisions: “As well as present-day motorsport, there is also a classic department and an area, in which we look after customer cars for track days,” says Esser. “We have six permanent employees. Depending on what we need, we can call on a number of freelancers on race weekends. Some team members have been with us for about 20 years. As a team principal, I obviously love that kind of loyalty.” Furthermore, Prosport is becoming a real family affair at the racetrack: Christoph Esser’s older brother Wim and his son Aaron regularly help out. “To call us a family team would be going too far though,” Esser chuckles.
In the 2025 season, Prosport Racing starts with two cars in ADAC GT4 Germany. The team has turned to an experienced driver and a newcomer to the series in each car. Double champion Hugo Sasse (21/Aschersleben) lines up alongside Roman Fellner-Feldegg (23/Landsberg am Lech). At the wheel of the second car is Marek Böckmann (28/Lautersheim), who won an ADAC GT4 Germany race in 2022, together with Anton Paul Abée (28/Hamburg). “Hugo is basically a regular. He is a great guy. In the winter, it became clear that it made sense to pair him with Roman Fellner-Feldegg,” says Esser. “And when I suggested to Anton that Marek Böckmann could be his team-mate, he was immediately thrilled. These two also get along superbly.”
The upcoming race weekend in ADAC GT4 Germany is a home event for Prosport Racing. “The Nürburgring is obviously of standout importance to our team. Many guests, friends and acquaintances will be there. That goes without saying,” explains Esser. “However, the workflows will be no different to at other racetracks. One big advantage is that the team members can sleep in their own beds at home. That not only saves accommodation costs, but also makes preparations a bit easier.”
The 2025 ADAC GT4 Germany season began very promisingly for Prosport Racing. Sasse and Fellner-Feldegg twice finished on the podium in Oschersleben. Plus, Hugo Sasse and Marek Böckmann both secured a pole position. “We would obviously love to be competing at the front all season. It is important that there is no damage. Plus, a fair and balanced vehicle classification is a must in today’s GT racing. If everyone heads home satisfied, then we as a team are happy,” says team principal Esser, explaining his goals for the season. “If we win the title in the process, that will be excellent and a great way to end my career as team principal, as I would like to retire at the end of the year. However, the team will continue under new leadership. I think we will announce more news on the future of Prosport over the coming weeks. We basically just want to give a good account of ourselves.”
