Jan Philipp Springob and Jay Mo Härtling will start the ADAC GT4 Germany races from the front of the grid at the Red Bull Ring. The Porsche of AVIA W&S Motorsport also impressed.
Qualifying in ADAC GT4 Germany at the Red Bull Ring was a really exciting affair. At the end of the two sessions, the Aston Martin and Mercedes-AMG camps had particular cause for celebration. Pole position for the Saturday race went to Jan Philipp Springob (24/Olpe) from COSY Racing by ESM, who set a time of 1:35.714 minutes in his Vantage AMR GT4. “We are thrilled with the result and the great starting position for the race. The team has once again provided a top car,” said Springob, who lines up alongside Storm Gjerdrum (16/NOR). “I don’t think we will simply be able to disappear off into the distance in the race – the opposition in ADAC GT4 Germany is too strong for that. It would definitely be nice if we could head home with a podium to our name.”
The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 of AVIA W&S Motorsport occupied places two to four in qualifying for Saturday’s race. Alon Gabbay (21/ISR) and Thomas Gore (20/JAM) were runners-up, 0.034 seconds slower than Springob. They were followed 0.174 seconds back by Hendrik Still (38/Kempenich) and Philipp Gogollok (19/Bad Homburg), with Oskar Lind Kristensen (19/DNK) and Lachlan Robinson (22/AUS) taking fourth place, 0.187 seconds off the top time. Rounding out the top five were championship leaders Enrico Förderer (18/Leuterod) and Jay Mo Härtling (22/Sprockhövel, both SR Motorsport by Schnitzelalm).
The second qualifying, for the Sunday race, went even better for the duo in a Mercedes-AMG GT4. Härtling secured pole position with a time of 1:35.618 minutes. “That is incredible, as we were not expecting this result. With Enrico qualifying fifth in the first session, we did not know exactly how far off the opposition we were. However, it all came together on that one lap and we came away with pole position,” said a jubilant Härtling. “We obviously want to hold onto that position in the race.”
As in the opening qualifying session, second place went to the Porsche of Gabbay and Gore, who this time missed out on pole by 0.191 seconds. The second row of the grid will also feature a car from both SR Motorsport by Schnitzelalm and AVIA W&S Motorsport: Cedric Fuchs (19/Holzappel) and Joel Mesch (21/Erkelenz) were third, 0.221 seconds slower than Härtling, followed by Kristensen and Robinson, who were 0.259 seconds off the pace.
Saturday’s ADAC GT4 Germany race starts at 16:25 and will be streamed live on adac.de/motorsport, ServusTV On, Joyn, sport1.de and youtube.com/adacmotorsports.
