Jan Philipp Springob was unbeatable in the first free practice session of ADAC GT4 Germany at the Nürburgring. Cars from four different manufacturers – Aston Martin, Mercedes-AMG, Porsche and Toyota – occupy the top six positions.
Perfect start for Aston COSY Racing by ESM: the team from Saxony is making its first appearance in this season’s ADAC GT4 Germany at the Nürburgring, and immediately set the fastest time in Free Practice 1. Jan Philipp Springob (24/Olpe), who shares the Vantage AMR GT4 Evo with Storm Gjerdrum (16/NOR), took 1:32.924 minutes to complete his fastest lap of the 3.629-kilometre circuit. “It is obviously great to start the race weekend this way. It gives the team a really good feeling. However, it is only fair that I should also mention that we were on a fresh set of Pirelli tyres,” says Springob, who already has two ADAC GT4 Germany victories to his name.
Second place, 0.369 seconds slower, went to the Mercedes-AMG GT4 of championship leaders Enrico Förderer (18/Leuterod) and Jay Mo Härtling (22/Sprockhövel, both SR Motorsport by Schnitzelalm). They were followed by their team-mates Cedric Fuchs (19/Holzappel) and Joel Mesch (20/Erkelenz) in third place, 0.772 seconds off Springob’s time. Luca Bosco (21/ITA) and Julien Apothéloz (24/CHE, both BWT Mücke Motorsport) completed a strong result for Mercedes-AMG, ending the session 0.785 seconds behind Springob in fourth place.
Rounding out the top five was the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 von Hendrik Still (38/Kempenich) and Philipp Gogollok (19/Bad Homburg, both AVIA W&S Motorsport), who missed out on top spot by 0.807 seconds. Another team that has made a good start to life in ADAC GT4 Germany is Teichmann Racing. The outfit from the Eifel region is making its debut in the ADAC series. Maximilian Schleimer (17/Obertiefenbach) and Roland Froese (31/Bruchertseifen) were sixth fastest in FP2 at the wheel of a Toyota GR Supra GT4.
Next up for ADAC GT4 Germany at the Nürburgring is the second free practice session, which gets underway at 14:20 on Friday. Saturday and Sunday each feature one qualifying and a race. “Our goal for qualifying is to finish in the top five,” says Springob. “Then we are aiming for the top ten in the races.”
