Prototype Cup·2.7.2025

Start into the second half of the season

Danny Soufi / Pavel Lefterov arrive in Nuremberg as championship leaders. Valentino Catalano sets sights on victory with new partner Oscar Tunjo. Both races to be streamed live.

The second half of this season’s Prototype Cup Germany gets underway at the Norisring this weekend (4th to 6th July). Danny Soufi (21/USA) and Pavel Lefterov (27/BUL, both Konrad Motorsport) amassed the most points in the first six races of the year. However, they have some fine drivers hot on their heels, including youngsters Maksymilian Angelard (17/POL) and Mattis Pluschkell (20/Elmenhorst, both BWT Mücke Motorsport) in second place, and the pairing of Sven Barth (44/Eberbach) and Maxim Dirickx (21/BEL, both Aust Motorsport), who are lurking in third place in the table. Both of this weekend’s qualifying sessions and the two races will be streamed live and free of charge at youtube.com/adacmotorsports.

The Prototype Cup Germany is making its second appearance at the Norisring, with the first coming back in 2023. Of the current crop of drivers, only Oscar Tunjo (29/COL, Badischer Motorsport Club) can claim to have finished on the podium at the iconic street circuit. Two years ago, the Columbian finished third alongside Julien Apothéloz. He now lines up together with reigning champion Valentino Catalano (19/Westheim, Badischer Motorsport Club). Catalano also started in Nuremberg in 2023, when he impressed with pole position in qualifying. However, he and his partner at the time Robin Rogalski failed to finish the race. With that in mind, he now says: “I have a score to settle with the Norisring and am hoping to settle it now. I really enjoy driving in Nuremberg and immediately felt at home there. And it is obviously great to be driving together with Oscar.” Catalano has contested two of this season’s three race weekends so far in the Prototype Cup Germany, winning one race on his own in Hockenheim. Tunjo has also started at two of the three race weekends. However, unlike Catalano, he has missed out on the podium so far.

Danny Soufi and Pavel Lefterov have been significantly more successful: the Konrad racers have tasted victory on three occasions so far this season. They were particularly impressive at the Dekra Lausitzring, where they bagged a brace of wins. Sven Barth and Maxim Dirickx also impressed in Lusatia: the German/Belgian pair made it onto the Prototype Cup Germany podium for the first time in their career in race one, before repeating their second place one day later.

The pairing of Jacob Erlbacher (24/Böblingen) and Jérémy Siffert (22/SUI, both Gebhardt Intralogistics Motorsport) will line up again in Nuremberg. They both started in Hockenheim, where Siffert made his debut in the German LMP3 series. Back then, they were in a Ginetta chassis. In Nuremberg, they will be at the wheel of a Duqueine. Siffert is the grandson of Swiss motor racing legend Jo Siffert and is just starting out on his own career in motorsport.

The latest forecasts are for it to be a warm, summery weekend. “It is bound to reach 80 degrees Celsius in the cockpit, and we don’t have air conditioning,” says Catalano. “However, I can cope with that, as I train a lot and have grown accustomed to it over the years. As such, it does not really play such a big role any more for me personally. However, for drivers who are new to LMP3, it is sure to be tiring; you have to prepare for it physically, in order to perform well throughout the whole race.”
