Prototype Cup·23.5.2025

Mücke youngsters set the pace

Mattias Bjerre Jakobsen (18/DEN) and Riccardo Leone Cirelli (17/ITA, both BWT Mücke Motorsport) ended the second free practice session in the Prototype Cup Germany in first place. They were almost half a second faster than Danny Soufi (21/USA) / Pavel Lefterov (27/BUL, both Konrad Motorsport), who were second at the Dekra Lausitzring. Third place went to Valentino Catalano (19/Westheim) and Mikkel C. Johansen (37/DEN, both Gebhardt Intralogistics Motorsport).

Cirelli was happy after his fastest lap. “I started FP2 on new tyres and put together a really good lap. The set-up of the car is moving in the right direction, and we have taken a step forward in that regard.” His team-mate Jakobsen is making his first appearance at the Lausitzring and, by his own admission, was still struggling a little. “I was well behind Riccardo in yesterday’s tests. However, I was able to reduce the gap today. The track here is not easy, but I like it.” Cirelli, who drove an LMP3 car at the Lausitzring last year, was full of praise for the Dane: “He did a good job, as it is really challenging to be fast at this circuit. You can lose an awful lot of time relatively easily, particularly in the first sector.”

Maksymilian Angelard (17/POL) and Mattis Pluschkell (20/Elmenhorst, both BWT Mücke Motorsport), who won their first race in the Prototype Cup Germany a fortnight ago in Hockenheim, were fourth fastest, followed by Zino-Ferret Fahlke (18/Hergiswil, Konrad Motorsport), Sven Barth (44/Eberbach) and Maxim Dirickx (21/BEL, both Aust Motorsport), Alexzander Kristiansson (25/SWE) and Michael Herich (47/Brühl, both Gebhardt Intralogistics Motorsport), and Thomas Ambiel (45/Eppingen, Rinaldi Racing). “The last time I raced at the Lausitzring was back in 2002 and 2003, in a VW Lupo,” said Trophy driver Ambiel, who returned to motorsport this year. “That was obviously completely different to being in an LMP3 car. However, I am optimistic that I can continue to improve this weekend. The most important thing for me is to do a lot of driving, as I learn with every kilometre behind the wheel. For example, I was behind Danny Soufi in Free Practice 2 and spotted a few things. I am still learning what the car is capable of, whilst at the same time pushing myself to the limit.”
