Better weather greeted the Prototype Cup Germany drivers as they took to the track for their second free practice at Spa-Francorchamps. The circuit was dry for the first time and the sun even made an appearance at times. The best lap time in these conditions came from Oscar Tunjo (29/COL, Gebhardt Motorsport), who shares a Duqueine with Mikkel C. Johansen (37/DEN, Gebhardt Motorsport). Keanu Al-Azhari (17/UAE, Mühlner Motorsport) was second fastest, followed by the pairing of Riccardo Leone Cirelli (17/ITA) and Mattias Bjerre Jakobsen (18/DEN, both BWT Mücke Motorsport)
“It was good to finally have dry conditions,” said Oscar Tunjo. “As we were on old tyres, it should be possible to set even faster lap times in qualifying, provided the conditions are similar. Whatever happens, we are well prepared for the first qualifying session this afternoon. That is what really counts.” Keanu Al-Azhari, who was hampered by a faulty drive shaft in Free Practice 1, topped the timings sheet with seven minutes of the session remaining, before being replaced by Tunjo. Just a few sessions from the end, the Columbian went even faster to extend his advantage over Al-Azhari to more than half a second.
The quartet of young BWT Mücke Motorsport drivers finished in third and fourth place. Riccardo Leone Cirelli and Matthias Bjerre Jakobsen were just 0.4 seconds faster than their team-mates Mattis Pluschkell (20/Elmenhorst) and Maksymilian Angelard (17/POL). Danny Soufi (21/USA) and Pavel Lefterov (27/BUL, both Konrad Motorsport) were fifth, ahead of Maxim Dirickx (20/BEL) and Sven Barth (44/Eberbach, both Aust Motorsport). Seventh place went to Alexzander Kristiansson (25/SWE) and Michael Herich (47/Brühl, both Gebhardt Motorsport). The Swede is new to the German LMP3 series and is becoming more and more familiar with the car and the track at Spa-Francorchamps, which is also new to him. “My main aim for FP2 was to build my confidence in the car. I believe I did a good job of that. I was able to brake later, was getting faster all the time through the quick sections, and found a decent rhythm in general. Spa is great fun and my team is really helping me to improve.” Thomas Ambiel (45/Eppingen, Rinaldi Racing), who like Kristiansson is new to the Prototype Cup Germany, ended the second free practice session in eighth place.
