Prototype Cup·24.5.2025

First on the Grid for Riccardo Leone Cirelli

In the second Prototype Cup Germany qualifying session at the Dekra Lausitzring, Riccardo Leone Cirelli (17/ITA, BWT Mücke Motorsport) was the fastest man on the track. With a lap time of 1:19.001 minutes, the Italian of BWT Mücke Motorsport pushed his team-mate Mattis Pluschkell (20/Elmenhorst, BWT Mücke Motorsport) into second place, meaning that both Mücke cars made it onto the front row of the grid for the second race of the weekend. Zino-Ferret Fahlke (18/Hergiswil, Konrad Motorsport) secured third place.

Cirelli was the dominating force in the second qualifying session, finishing 0.572 seconds ahead of the driver in second place. “It was a good lap on which I gave everything. The previous time around, I briefly went into the gravel, which was why I really wanted to put my foot down again and see what’s possible. This is my second successive pole position after Hockenheim, and I don’t think that an LMP3 has ever driven as fast as today at the Lausitzring. The pole today could also be an advantage if it rains in the race on Sunday – this would make us well placed to take the lead and have the best view.”

Pluschkell came in behind Cirelli and wasn’t disappointed with his position. “I’m happy with second place. To be honest, my fastest lap wasn’t that great, it was a bit chaotic. I didn’t get my best sectors all on the same lap and a rival was in my way at the end. If things had been ideal, maybe I would have been able to be two or three tenths of a second faster, but I wouldn’t have been able to match Riccardo’s time. I take my hat off to him and his performance and am pleased that I can learn from him.”

Fahlke was also among the satisfied racing drivers, even though his qualifying session was like that of Pluschkell. “One or two sectors were good, but rarely all on the same lap. And towards the end I also ran into a slow competitor. However, I’m pleased, and my car also felt better than it did during the first qualifying session. I experienced a lot of understeer yesterday, today the handling was more neutral.”

Maxim Dirickx (21/BEL, Aust Motorsport) showed off his good form with fourth place, followed by Pavel Lefterov (27/BUL, Konrad Motorsport), Alexzander Kristiansson (25/SWE), Mikkel C. Johansen (37/DEN, both Gebhardt Intralogistics Motorsport) and Thomas Ambiel (45/Eppingen, Rinaldi Racing).
