The Gebhardt Motorsport team will roll out its Ginetta again at round two of the Prototype Cup Germany at the Hockenheimring. The car will be driven by Jérémy Siffert and Jacob Erlbacher. While Erlbacher is a familiar face in the Prototype Cup Germany, Siffert will be making his debut in the German LMP3 series.
Jérémy Siffert is 21 years old and currently studying for his school leaving examinations. He has spent the past two years racing in the Sprint Cup by Funyo – a series featuring small prototypes in the CN, CM and Funyo classes. In 2024, he won the title for the best junior and finished runner-up in the overall standings. This winter, he switched to the GT3 Cup within the Porsche Sprint Challenge Suisse. However, during the winter months, he had also received an invitation from Gebhardt Motorsport to test the Ginetta. “Gebhardt Motorsport had contacted me and I was thrilled to get to drive an LMP3 car. The conditions were not easy at the test in Hockenheim; it was a mix of wet and dry, and was also really cold. Despite all that, it was still a lot of fun.”
He is now set to make his Prototype Cup Germany debut in May. “It is sure to be a challenge for me, as I have previously only done a few laps in an LMP3 car and I am used to driving a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup at the moment. In contrast, my rivals in the Prototype Cup Germany already have a race weekend behind them and know the car much better than me. However, it is good to venture outside your comfort zone now and again. That is how you learn the most. I am starting for one of the best teams in the Prototype Cup Germany, and I also really value the fact that I have an experienced team-mate in Jacob. I don’t want to make any mistakes and will try to get as close as possible to Jacob’s times. And I obviously want to have fun too.”
When they hear the name Siffert, many people immediately think of Switzerland’s Jo Siffert, the grandfather of Jérémy. He raced in Formula 1 in 60s through to the early 70s, and also contested many sports car races. Jo Siffert claimed two Grand Prix victories and also won the sports car classic in Sebring together with Hans Herrmann. He also took on the competition at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, finishing fourth and narrowly missing out on the overall podium. In October 1971, he was involved in a fatal crash in a Formula 1 race at Brands Hatch, which did not form part of the world championship. Siffert remains one of the most popular racing drivers in Switzerland to this day. “I am proud of my grandfather and his successes, but my dad was also actively involved in motor racing for 15 years. It is obviously a very special family story. However, I am not here because I am Jo Siffert’s grandson, but because I am also passionate about this sport.”
Races three and four of this season’s Prototype Cup Germany will take place from 9th to 11th May at the Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg.
