Nicolai Skovbjerg finishes the ADAC MX Youngster Cup in style. Lucas Leok clinches the title with a race win in the ADAC MX Junior Cup 125. ADAC MX Junior Cup 85 champion Martins Cirulis secures a one-two.
The junior classes of the ADAC MX Masters also provided thrilling races and two title deciders for the more than ten thousand fans in Fürstlich Drehna at the weekend. Nicolai Skovbjerg (DK/SixtySeven Racing Team), who had already been confirmed as champion, shone in the ADAC MX Youngster Cup by securing the event victory after three strong races. Lucas Leok (EST/KTM MX Futures) came out on top in his first year in the ADAC MX Junior Cup 125, whilst in the ADAC MX Junior Cup 85, Martins Cirulis (LAT/Schmicker Silve Racing) secured the title after just the first race. In the ADAC MX Masters team standings, the Kosak Racing Team won the season title, whilst in the Young Talents team standings, victory went to MX-Handel Husqvarna Racing.
ADAC MX Youngster Cup: Skovbjerg virtually unbeatable
In the ADAC MX Youngster Cup, the new champion Nicolai Skovbjerg shone in Sunday’s second race following a start-to-finish victory in Saturday’s race. He overtook Red Bull Holeshot winner Saku Mansikkamäki (FIN/Schmicker Silve Racing) at the front as early as the first lap and went on to secure a controlled victory ahead of the Finn. Ricardo Bauer (A/Norman KTM Factory Rookies) held third place throughout the race, ahead of Jekabs Kubulins (LAT/Kristera Serga Motoklubs) and Valentin Kees (D/Kosak Racing Team). With two laps to go, Kees was pushed out of the top five by Dean Gregoire (NL/Motovation Motorsport Husqvarna). In the third race, both Skovbjerg and Mansikkamäki crashed at the start and had to work their way up from the back of the field. Lyonel Reichl (LIE/KTM Sarholz Racing Team) led the race for five laps before Sebastian Leok (EST/MX-Handel Husqvarna Racing) took the lead ahead of Kubulins and Kees. Richard Paat (EST/Mefo Sport Racing Team) took third place from Kees in the final third of the race, but Skovbjerg’s charge had already propelled him up to fourth. The Dane took second place with four laps to go and whittled his deficit of over ten seconds down to under a second by the finish. However, Leok kept his nerve and won ahead of Skovbjerg and Paat. Skovbjerg topped the event standings ahead of Mansikkamäki and Leok. In the championship, Leok finished second ahead of Mansikkamäki, Scott Smulders (NL/SixtySeven Racing Team) and Kees.
“With that crash at the start of the third race, I gave the fans something to cheer about once again, even though I would have preferred a third win. But given the circumstances, I can be very satisfied with the result and have finished the season strongly,” said a satisfied Skovbjerg.
“I’m really happy that I was able to win the championship straight away in my first year on the 125cc bike. It was a good weekend and, with second place in the first race, I put myself in a good position. In the second race, I wanted to focus on securing third place in the championship, but after Emil crashed, I sensed a chance to win the day’s race and pushed a bit harder,” said a beaming Leok.
ADAC MX Junior Cup 85: Martins Cirulis unbeatable
In the ADAC MX Junior Cup 85, too, the title race was still up for grabs heading into the weekend. However, championship leader Martins Cirulis sealed the title as early as Saturday with a race win ahead of Robin Robert Mooses (EST/MX-Handel Husqvarna Racing) and Harry Dale (GB/KTM MX Futures). Patriks Cirulis (LAT/Schmicker Silve Racing) could only manage 14th place following a crash and was relegated to third place in the championship by Dale. In the second race on Sunday, Martins Cirulis secured a commanding start-to-finish victory ahead of his brother Patriks, Dale, Mike Pijnen (NL/Mefo Sport Racing Team) and Elliot Lord (S/Werthmann Racing Team by Mefo Sport). This meant that Martins Cirulis took the win at Fürstlich Drehna ahead of Dale and Pijnen. In the championship standings, Dale retained second place ahead of Patriks Cirulis, Mooses and Tom Sönke Hänel (D/Mefo Sport Racing Team by KTM Sturm).
“It was a perfect weekend. I’d like to thank my sponsors and my parents, but also my brother, who’s always pushing me on, which helps us both improve,” said a delighted Martins Cirulis.
Team standings: Schmicker Silve Racing secures a one-two
In the ADAC MX Masters team standings, a team’s best result from each class is counted, with the result from the ADAC MX Masters class counting double. In the Young Talents team standings, however, results from the ADAC MX Masters class are excluded. In Fürstlich Drehna, Schmicker Silve Racing emerged victorious in both classifications for the second time in a row. In the championship, the Kosak Racing Team came out on top in the ADAC MX Masters team standings, ahead of Schmicker Silve Racing and the KTM Sarholz Racing Team. In the Young Talents team standings, victory went to MX-Handel Husqvarna Racing, followed by Schmicker Silve Racing and KTM MX Futures.
All races from both days of the event can be watched free of charge as re-livestreams or as individual races via the ADAC MX Masters playlist on the ADAC Motorsport YouTube channel.
