Max Nagl secures maximum points in Grevenbroich. Defending champion Roan van de Moosdijk finishes second in both races. Tom Koch celebrates a successful return to the series with third place.
A perfect start: Max Nagl (D/Dörr Motorsport Triumph Racing) takes the lead in the standings with three race wins at the ADAC MX Masters season opener in Grevenbroich. Reigning champion Roan van de Moosdijk (NL/KTM Kosak Racing Team) also made a strong start to the season with second place overall. Tom Koch (D/KTM Sarholz Racing Team) made a successful return to the championship with third place.
Max Nagl remains unbeaten in Grevenbroich
As the Acerbis Best Qualifier, Nagl laid the foundations for three strong races on Saturday. In the first race, he took the lead early on from Red Bull Holeshot winner Harri Kullas (EST/Schmicker Silve Racing) and secured a clear victory. On Sunday, Nagl did not get off to the best start in the second race and initially had to fight his way up from ninth place towards the front. In the second half of the race, he engaged in a thrilling duel with van de Moosdijk, who took the lead from race winner Jörgen-Matthias Talviku (EST/SHR Motorsports by Hartje) on the eighth lap. With four laps to go, Nagl took the lead and defended it narrowly against van de Moosdijk right to the finish. Talviku finished third. In the third race, Nagl then secured a start-to-finish victory, controlling the lead ahead of van de Moosdijk and Koch.
“I’ve worked hard over the winter and it’s paid off this weekend. I’m delighted to start the season like this, and also for the whole Dörr Motorsport Triumph Racing Team, with whom we’ve won the team championship for the first time. That’s no mean feat for such a young team. In the second race, I had to work hard to move up the field after a poor start. But I still felt fresh at the end and decided to go for it against Roan. In the third race, I managed my pace well after taking the Red Bull holeshot,” said Nagl.
Roan van de Moosdijk showed consistency on the podium
Apart from Nagl, van de Moosdijk was the only other rider to finish in the top three in all three races over the weekend. On Saturday, after starting in the top five, he fought his way up to second place within a few laps. In the second race, he started sixth and was within two laps of the leader, Talviku. At the start of the second half of the race, van de Moosdijk took the lead, but could only hold it for four laps before being overtaken by Nagl, on whom he kept the pressure until the finish. In the third race, van de Moosdijk came out of the first lap in ninth place and took longer than in the previous races to move up the field. It was only in the final third of the race that he took second place from Koch, which also secured him second place overall.
“I’m happy with my riding, but if I want to win, I need to be up front right from the start. I made life a bit difficult for myself this weekend because of that. But overall it was a good start and I’m looking forward to the rest of the season,” said van de Moosdijk.
Tom Koch returns to his usual form
On Saturday, after a year’s break from the ADAC MX Masters, Koch got off to a flying start to the season with a third-place finish, having fought his way up strongly from twelfth place in the first lap. On Sunday, however, after starting in twelfth place in the second race, he could only manage to climb as high as ninth. In the third race, he then replicated his Saturday performance and held second place for nine laps before being pushed back to third. He thus finished third behind Nagl and van de Moosdijk. Talviku and Jere Haavisto (FIN/Schmicker Silve Racing) rounded off the top five in the event standings.
“Starting the season with a podium finish is a solid result and something I can build on. I had a few problems in the second race, but the third race was all the better for it. I’m delighted to be back at the ADAC MX Masters,” said Koch.
All races from both days of the event can be watched for free as re-livestreams or as individual races via the ADAC MX Masters playlist on the ADAC Motorsport YouTube channel.
