Further collaboration with the Kosak Racing Team is being sought. The ADAC MX Masters is one of the best racing series. Defending the title is no easier, despite a substantial lead.
In his second full ADAC MX Masters season, Roan van de Moosdijk (NL/Kosak Racing Team) won the championship for the second year running. He capped off this success last weekend at the Motocross of Nations with a podium finish in the team world championship as part of the Dutch team. In this interview, the 25-year-old reveals what dreams and goals he still has and whether he will be competing for the ADAC MX Masters title again in 2027.
Congratulations on your second consecutive ADAC MX Masters title! How did the season go – and was defending the title more difficult than winning it for the first time?
Roan van de Moosdijk: “The first title battle with Max Nagl went right down to the last race of the season. With this second title, it was a close battle until the middle of the season, until Max got injured. From then on, I had quite a big lead, which made things a bit easier towards the end. Nevertheless, I’d say that defending the title was perhaps more difficult because Max was riding really strongly right up until his injury. I’m absolutely delighted to have won the championship for the second time in a row.”
In the first half of the season, the van de Moosdijk/Nagl duo had pulled well clear of the rest of the field. Did winter preparations take a different approach this time, to ensure they’re even better prepared for 2026?
“To be honest, I prepared in the winter exactly the same way as the year before, with my coach Marc de Reuver. Among other things, we were in Sardinia, and I didn’t make any major changes to my physical training either. I’ve simply gained more experience and spent another year on the 450. Of course, the extra confidence I gained from winning the title helped me too. But I didn’t do anything particularly different.”
So, further development as a rider – and another year together with the Kosak Racing Team.
“Yes, I know the people in the team even better now, such as team manager Kevin Gödderz and team owner Herbert Kosak. They’re all calm and relaxed, and that’s how I am as a person too – I think we’re a good fit. Knowing in advance what I’d be working with this year has also helped me. The whole package just works, and we’ve shown that too, because with Kosak we’ve won two titles in a row.”
What are the plans and ideas for the coming year?
“Nothing has been decided yet, but I’m in talks with Kevin about next year, and it’s looking promising. This year, I also raced in America for the first time with the Kosak team, and perhaps we’ll do even more along those lines next year. I haven’t signed anything yet and I’m open to offers from the MXGP, for example, so I can’t say anything definite just yet. However, I’m tempted by the idea of aiming for a hat-trick of titles in the ADAC MX Masters – something only Max Nagl has managed so far. I think the ADAC MX Masters is one of the best championships you can compete in.”
How would you rate the series in terms of riding standard and organisation?
“I’d say just below the MXGP. In the Netherlands, where I live, we only have three or four rounds in the domestic championship. The ADAC MX Masters is a bigger and longer championship. And you can see that from the names – all of whom have raced in the ADAC before and still do – there have always been good riders on the starting grid here.”
Are there still any career dreams left to fulfil?
“Going to the USA was right at the top of my wish list. And as I said, maybe I’ll want to do that more often next year and ride on even better tracks. But I’ve already achieved quite a lot in my career. However, if an MXGP team comes knocking – a proper works team – I’m always up for it.”
Which event was the highlight of the season this year?
“I’d say Bitche. I always enjoy going there. The track has a hard-pack layout, but with a sandy surface. That’s unusual and great fun. And I had a great battle with Max there. It was pretty close between us, but in the final race I managed to keep him behind me.”
