Roan van de Moosdijk wins on Saturday. Nicolai Skovbjerg continues to set the pace in the ADAC MX Youngster Cup an. Martins Cirulis comes out on top in the ADAC MX Junior Cup 85.
After a two-month break, the ADAC MX Masters returned to action today with round five in the scorching summer heat in Gaildorf. Victory in the Saturday races went to Roan van de Moosdijk (ADAC MX Masters), Nicolai Skovbjerg (ADAC MX Youngster Cup) and Martins Cirulis (ADAC MX Junior Cup 85). In qualifying for the ADAC MX Junior Cup 125, Ryan Oppliger secured pole position for Sunday’s races.
ADAC MX Masters: Van de Moosdijk calmly takes victory
Noah Ludwig (D/KTM Sarholz Racing Team) took the Red Bull Holeshot, and with it the early lead in race one, followed by Maximilian Spies (D/Becker Racing) and Jörgen-Matthias Talviku (EST/SHR Motorsports by Hartje). Within the opening two laps, championship leader Roan van de Moosdijk (NL/Kosak Racing Team) had climbed from fourth to second, and he then set about putting Ludwig under pressure. Spies gradually lost touch with the leading duo. Around the midway point of the race, van de Moosdijk pulled off the overtaking manoeuvre he needed to move ahead of Ludwig and into the lead. In the meantime, Spies was increasingly coming under pressure from Tom Koch (D/KTM Sarholz Racing Team), who had worked his way to the front of a chasing pack. As the race entered its final third, Koch took third place and Kevin Brumann (CH/MX-Handel Husqvarna Racing) overtook Talviku to climb into the top five. And that turned out to be the final result: Van de Moosdijk took the race win, ahead of Ludwig, Koch, Spies and Brumann. Van de Moosdijk’s biggest rival in the title race coming into the Gaildorf weekend, Max Nagl (D/Dörr Motorsport Triumph Racing), was unable to start due to injury.
“Noah did a very good job, and I enjoyed the battle with him. However, I knew that I could go faster, took my time, and kept the pressure on. Once I had overtaken him, I was able to ride my own race in my rhythm, and to open a lead,” said a happy van de Moosdijk.
ADAC MX Youngster Cup: Skovbjerg wins after flawless ride
Race one in the ADAC MX Youngster Cup once again saw Saku Mansikkamäki (FIN/Schmicker Silve Racing) take the Red Bull Holeshot. However, championship leader Nicolai Skovbjerg (DK/SixtySeven Racing-Team) had found his way to the front of the field by the end of the opening lap. Sebastian Leok (EST/MX-Handel Racing Husqvarna) and Valentin Kees (D/Kosak Racing Team) also overtook the Finn. Starts had previously been Skovbjerg’s weakness, but he used his early lead to consistently pull away from his pursuers. Meanwhile, Kees crashed on lap two and rejoined the race in sixth place. Having worked his way back to fourth place, the German then hit the deck again on lap four, and this time dropped back to fifth, behind Byron Dennis (AU/Cat Moto Bauerschmidt KTM). Kees crashed for a third time whilst battling with the Australian. However, to the delight of the many fans, he managed to battle back to fourth place with two laps of the race remaining. While Skovbjerg took a commanding victory ahead of Leok, Mansikkamäki once again came under big pressure from Kees on the final lap, but was ultimately able to hold on to third place against the German.
“I have worked very hard on my starts, and that showed here. I had to ride really hard at the start, but once I had the lead, I was able to manage the race. I am very happy,” said Skovbjerg.
ADAC MX Junior Cup 125: Oppliger on pole position
In the ADAC MX Junior Cup 125, Saturday was all about qualifying and starting positions for the two races on Sunday. 2024 ADAC MX Junior Cup champion, Ryan Oppliger (CH/Oppliger Racing), was fastest in the race against the clock, and will get first choice of starting position tomorrow, followed by Emil Ziemer (CH/Motobike Racing Team) and championship leader Lucas Leok (EST/KTM MX Futures).
ADAC MX Junior Cup 85: The Cirulis twins are separated
Martins Cirulis (EST/Schmicker Silve Racing) won the Red Bull Holeshot and took the lead, ahead of Acerbis Best Qualifier Harry Dale (GB/KTM MX Futures) and championship leader Patriks Cirulis (EST/Schmicker Silve Racing). However, Patriks crashed on the third jump and dropped to the back of the field. That left his brother clear out in front. At the halfway point of the race, Jaggar Townley (NZ/Yamaha NZ) overtook Dale to move into second place. The top three then remained the same through to the finish. Behind them, however, there were plenty of overtaking manoeuvres. In the end, victory went to Martins Cirulis, ahead of Townley, Dale, Gergö Horvath (HU/HTS Racing Team) and Elliot Lord (S/Werthmann Racing Team by Mefo Sport).
“The hot weather was a big challenge, and I am now very tired. However, my good start laid the foundation for the win. I hope I can do the same tomorrow,” said Martins.
