The two junior classes also provided plenty of excitement and action for spectators at the ADAC MX Masters at the Circuit du Martinsthal in Bitche over the weekend. In the ADAC MX Youngster Cup, Team Cat Moto Bauerschmidt Husqvarna took all three podium places. Nico Greutmann (CH) prevailed over his teammates with two race wins. In the ADAC MX Junior Cup 85, Lucas Leok (EST/KTM MX Futures) secured the title ahead of schedule. The Kosak Racing Team won the ADAC MX Masters team classification and the Young Talents team classification for the third time in a row.
ADAC MX Youngster Cup: Owens and Greutmann claim their first race wins of the season
The Cat Moto Bauerschmidt Husqvarna team made its mark on the ADAC MX Youngster Cup at the weekend. In the first race on Saturday, Liam Owens (AU) took the lead with the Red Bull Holeshot. Maximilian Ernecker (A/SixtySeven Racing Husqvarna) snatched it from him on the opening lap, but Owens regained the lead on the second lap and secured his first race win of the championship. Greutmann and Maxime Grau (F/WZ-Racing KTM) followed in the next positions. In the second race on Sunday, Jan Krug (D/SixtySeven Racing Team Husqvarna) took the lead at the start. However, he was pushed back to third place by Greutmann and Mads Fredsoe (DK/Cat Moto Bauerschmidt Husqvarna) on the opening lap. Greutmann and Fredsoe clearly distanced themselves from the rest of the field in their battle for the lead. Fredsoe remained within striking distance of Greutmann throughout the race, but the Swiss rider remained in control and also secured his first race win of the year ahead of Fredsoe and Krug. Buoyed by this success, Greutmann won the third race with a start-to-finish victory, once again ahead of Fredsoe. Owens completed the team's success with third place. Greutmann, Fredsoe and Owens also took the top three positions in the event standings. Fredsoe thus took the championship lead from Bradley Mesters (NL/Kosak Racing Team), who had a difficult weekend finishing 13th, and Grau.
‘I didn't have an outstanding weekend, but it was a very solid one. I'm happy and delighted to have won the red plate after having to miss the start of the season in Fürstlich Drehna due to injury,’ said a delighted Fredsoe.
‘I've been waiting a long time for my first race win and overall victory this year. I've had a lot of bad luck so far, but everything came together this weekend. Our team boss Hans Ruedi Berger was there in person today, which made it all the more fantastic that we delivered such an outstanding team result. Now I'm looking forward to the final in Holzgerlingen,’ said Greutmann, beaming.
ADAC MX Junior Cup 85: Leok dominates an Estonian podium
Lucas Leok secured the championship with a strong weekend, one race before the season finale. Leok was unbeatable in Bitche, winning both the qualifying and the three races. He had to fight hardest in the second race, where he only managed to take the lead from Gregor Lootus (EST/KTM) halfway through the race. Leok sealed the title with a start-to-finish victory in the third race. Lootus impressed on his debut in the ADAC MX Junior Cup 85, finishing second in the first two races. He was also in second place in the third race before a crash set him back. Nevertheless, tenth place in the final race was enough for him to finish second in Bitche behind Leok. Marten Raud (EST/MX-Handel Husqvarna Racing) secured an Estonian podium finish with three consistent races and race placings of fourth, fifth and fourth. From a German perspective, Luca Frank (D/Becker Racing) finished third in the first race, while Luca Nierychlo (D/KTM MX Futures) finished third and second in the remaining races after retiring from the opening race. Second in the standings, Jarno Jansen (CH/SixtySeven Racing Husqvarna), improved on his eighth place in the first race over the course of the weekend and finished on a high note with third place in the third race. Jansen remains in second place in the standings ahead of Harry Dale (GB/KTM MX Futures).
‘Winning the title feels great and the pressure is now off. I had three good starts and races. Sealing the title with a start-to-finish victory is fantastic. I'm very happy,’ said a jubilant Leok.
