Approach of “strength is born of calmness” is key to the title. Family motocross dynasty gives an edge. Stepping up to the 125cc class with KTM factory support in 2026.
Winning the title in the ADAC MX Junior Cup 85 was the icing on the cake at the end of Lucas Leok’s (EST/KTM MX Futures) 85 cc career. Leok did not turn 14 until he had lifted the trophy, at the end of a season in which he won eleven of 13 races in the ADAC MX Junior Cup 85 and only failed to make it onto the podium on one occasion. Although he tends to prefer to let his riding do the talking, the son of former Motocross professional Aigar Leok was happy to discuss his season and his career so far in our champion’s interview.
Congratulations on winning the ADAC MX Junior Cup 85. How pleased are you to have won this championship?
“Thank you very much. I am thrilled with this title. It feels awesome to end the season at the very top – that is definitely a special moment for me.”
Did the title come as a surprise, or was that always the goal?
“My goal was always to challenge for the title. However, you never know how a season is going to unfold. As such, it is a bit of both: I worked hard for it and, after finishing runner-up last year, it felt like the logical next step.”
Where does this title rank for you?
“The ADAC series is very competitive, so this win means a lot to me. My biggest successes include winning the European and Junior World Championship in the 65cc class, as well as finishing second in the Junior World Championship in the 85cc category.”
How important is it to be able to test yourself against international opposition with the ADAC?
“Very important. Competing against strong riders from different countries helps me enormously to improve and prepares me for bigger challenges.”
What were your strengths in 2025? Did you change anything compared to previous years?
“I believe that my consistency was my greatest strength. I worked hard on my training, my starts, and keeping calm during the races. I was better prepared than in previous years – more mature, better organised and physically stronger.”
What role did your team play in that?
“A huge one. The KTM MX Futures team supported me all season – with training, the bike, and the mental aspect. Without them, this success would not have been possible.”
You come from a very successful Motocross family. Is that a benefit, or can it perhaps be a disadvantage?
“It is usually an advantage. I can learn a lot from my family, and they know exactly what I am going through. The expectations are obviously quite high sometimes, but that makes me extra motivated.”
How long have you been riding in Motocross, and how did you get into it?
“You could say that I was born into Motocross. I am a fourth-generation rider in the Leok racing family – this sport has always been a big part of my life. I got my first motorbike when I was two and a half years old, and have been racing since I was three.”
What do you find so fascinating about Motocross?
“The speed, the adrenalin rush, the jumps – and the feeling of pushing yourself to the limit. It is just really special.”
Which race was the highlight of your 2025 ADAC season?
“My highlight was the race in Bitche. I had already wrapped up the title with one round of the season still to come, so the final race was all about finishing on a high. That win meant a lot to me.”
And which race would you rather forget?
“Probably Dreetz. I made a lot of mistakes there and crashed several times – although I did make it onto the podium in the end. But races like that help me to learn and develop.”
Which rider in your class surprised you the most in the 2025 season?
“A few drivers really improved a lot this year – for example, my KTM MX Futures team-mates Luca, Harry and Conrad. It was great to see how competitive the field was.”
What are your plans for 2026? Which team will you ride for, and in which series?
“I will step up to the 125cc class in 2026. I will line up in all the races in the European Championship, start in the ADAC series again, and enter multiple international races. If the calendar allows it, I will also race in the Estonian championship. I will be riding for our own Team Lucas Leok #111, with KTM factory support.”
To end this interview, is there anything else you would like to say?
“I would like to thank my family, my team, my sponsors, my fans and all my supporters – you make all the hard work worthwhile. I am really looking forward to 2026, am ready for new challenges, and can hardly wait to get back out on the track and give it my all, as always.”
