Tom Koch celebrates his first overall win in Randers

Tom Koch wins two races and tops overall standings in Denmark. Max Nagl and Maximilian Spies complete the podium. Max Nagl remains championship leader, ahead of Adam Sterry and Tom Koch.

The many fans in Randers were treated to thrilling action on a challenging track at the maiden ADAC MX Masters event on Danish soil. Tom Koch (D/KTM Kosak Racing Team) won two of the three races to top the event standings in the ADAC MX Masters class for the first time in his career. Max Nagl (D/KMP Honda Racing powered by Krettek) claimed victory in the first race on Saturday, retaining the championship lead with second place overall in Denmark. Class rookie Maximilian Spies (D/KTM Kosak Racing Team) produced a great performance to claim his first daily podium in the championship.

In the first race on Saturday, Noah Ludwig (D/KTM Sarholz Racing Team) swept ahead of championship leader Max Nagl and Adam Sterry (GB/KTM Sarholz Racing Team) to cross the Red Bull Holeshot line. After three laps, Henry Jacobi (D/KTM Sarholz Racing Team) claimed the lead from his young team-mate and Nagl. Tom Koch assumed the chasing role on lap five, gradually moving closer to Jacobi. Nagl and Sterry made it past Ludwig by the halfway point of the race, and he took a tumble and fell back shortly thereafter. A spectacular three-way battle for the lead developed between Jacobi, Koch and Nagl as they repeatedly swapped places within the top three. Nagl had managed to move into a wafer-thin lead as the final two laps approached, while Jordi Tixier (F/KMP Honda Racing powered by Krettek) started to reel in Jacobi and Koch. Nagl won the opener in Randers, two seconds ahead of Jacobi, Koch and Tixier, who crossed the line side by side. Sterry completed the top five.

In the second race on Sunday, the Red Bull Holeshot went to local hero Glen Meier (DK/Schmicker Racing). Jacobi sped up from ninth to claim the lead on lap four, with Sterry also passing the Danish rider in his slipstream. Koch applied more pressure in the second half of the race, moving up from third place to claim the lead within two laps. It did not take long for Nagl and Spies to also overtake Jacobi. Nagl put Koch under plenty of pressure as the end of the race approached, but Koch held his nerve to chalk up his first race win of the season ahead of Nagl, Spies, Jacobi and Tixier, who passed Sterry on the final lap.

Meier again claimed the Red Bull Holeshot in the third race, but Nagl moved into the lead on lap one while Jacobi was stuck towards the rear of the field. However, the championship leader struggled to find his rhythm in the early minutes of the race this weekend. Spies made the most of this on lap two, moving into the lead ahead of Nagl, Sterry and Koch, who exited turn one back in ninth. Nagl reclaimed the lead towards the halfway point of the race, but was at fault as he fell three laps later, falling back behind Sterry into fourth place. Koch gradually caught up with Spies and took the lead three laps before the end of the race, defending that position to the line. Spies finished second to record his best race result so far, ahead of Nagl, Sterry and Tixier.

In the overall standings, Tom Koch prevailed over Max Nagl and Maximilian Spies for the first time in his career. Tixier and Sterry completed the top five. Nagl retains the lead in the championship ahead of Sterry, while Koch is now in third place, above Jacobi and Spies, who are on the same number of points.

“The track here is really challenging, but it provided good lines and overtaking opportunities. Those were three difficult races, but I had the speed over the whole weekend and I took my chances. Two race wins, my first overall victory in the ADAC MX Masters, it couldn’t have gone any better,” said a delighted Tom Koch at the podium ceremony.

“The boys are stepping on the gas! I am satisfied with the result, but not with how I am riding. Things could have ended very differently when I fell in the third race, so I am just relieved that I didn’t get hurt. It was a difficult and tough weekend for me,” concluded Max Nagl.

“I made a bad start to the weekend in practice, but I was determined to make the best of it. Finishing third in the first race boosted my confidence. It is an unbelievable feeling to be on the overall podium in this class for the first time,” revealed a jubilant Maximilian Spies.
