Sterry claims the first ADAC MX Masters race win of his career. Oriol Oliver triumphs in the ADAC MX Youngster Cup. Janis Martins Reisulis secures pole position in the ADAC MX Junior Cup 125.

Big crowds were treated to thrilling racing in glorious weather when the ADAC MX Masters returned to Mölln. Saturday’s two races were won by Adam Sterry (UK/KTM Sarholz Racing Team) in the ADAC MX Masters class and Oriol Oliver (E/WZ-Racing) in the ADAC MX Youngster Cup. In the ADAC MX Junior Cup 125, qualifying and the Last Chance Race were held on Saturday. Janis Martins Reisulis (LVA/Hamstra MX Team) secured pole position for Sunday’s two races with the fastest time in qualifying.

ADAC MX Masters: Maiden race win for Sterry

In Saturday’s opening ADAC MX Masters race, it was a newcomer to the class, Noah Ludwig (D/KTM Sarholz Racing Team) who impressed with the Red Bull Holeshot ahead of Max Nagl (D/KMP Honda Racing powered by Krettek), who had started from pole position. However, championship leader Nagl crashed of his own accord on the opening lap, leaving Sterry and Mathias Jorgensen (DK/Filten Racing) to take up the chase. Henry Jacobi (D/KTM Sarholz Racing Team) and Tom Koch (D/KTM Kosak Racing Team) soon passed the Dane. Ludwig yielded to pressure and surrendered the lead to his team-mate Sterry on lap four. Sterry gradually extended his lead and went on to take a comfortable victory, the first of his career in this series. After a small mistake, Kochs was able to pull clear of Jacobi, then close the gap to Ludwig and overtake him at the start of the final quarter of the race. On the final lap, Koch and Jordi Tixier (F/KMP Honda Racing powered by Krettek) also passed 18-year-old Ludwig, who only moved to his new team at the start of the week. Nagl’s fightback ended in eighth place.

“It was not easy, as the track is tricky. However, I feel comfortable in those kind of conditions. Once I took the lead, I started to think too much, as it has been a while since I led a race. My forearms stiffened up as a result, and I had to slow down a bit. Despite this, I did enough to get the win and am very happy. The victory is the result of a lot of hard work that the team have put into developing the bike over the past few weeks and months,” said a delighted Sterry at the presentation ceremony.

ADAC MX Youngster Cup: Oliver impresses

Bence Pergel (HU/HTS KTM) got off to a flying start to take the Red Bull Holeshot, but lost the lead to Oriol Oliver before the end of the opening lap. Mike Gwerder (CH/WZ-Racing), championship leader and the fastest man in practice Cato Nickel (D/WZ-Racing), and Edvards Bidzans (LVA/Sixty Seven) also passed the Hungarian on lap one. Oliver slowly but surely extended his lead over his team-mates Gwerder and Nickel, and went on to take a commanding victory. Nickel was lying in wait for a long time, before upping the pressure on Gwerder in the second half of the race and battling his way into second place with three laps remaining. Behind Oliver, Nickel and Gwerder, fourth place went to Bidzans, followed by Marnique Appelt (D/Becker Racing).

“I had a good start, which helped me. I quickly took the lead but struggled a bit with the track. It all worked out well in the end and I am happy with my victory, and the fact that my WZ Racing team-mates joined me on the podium,” said a delighted Oliver at the finish.
