Nagl, Farres, Reisulis and Lucas win at opening ADAC MX Masters event in Dreetz

Max Nagl overcame challenging track conditions to win the opening race of the ADAC MX Masters in the Brandenburg municipality of Dreetz. Spain’s Guillem Farres claimed a lights-to-flag victory in the ADAC MX Youngster Cup. In the ADAC MX Junior Cup 125, Karlis Alberts Reisulis was able to fend off a series of late attacks from Ivano Van Erp. Maxime Lucas took victory in the ADAC MX Junior Cup, ahead of German Jonathan Frank.

Unsettled weather made for difficult race conditions in all four classes, as the sandy track in Dreetz carved up badly at the opening round of this season’s ADAC MX Masters. Jorge Zaragoza (ESP) was the first to sprint across the Red Bull Holeshot line on the KMP Honda Racing Team bike, and led the first two laps ahead of Max Nagl (GER) and Nico Koch (GER). Lars Van Berkel (NLD) passed Koch to take third place on lap three, before Nagl moved to the head of the field one lap later. Meanwhile, reigning champion Jordi Tixier (FRA) and his KTM Sarholz Racing team-mate Adam Sterry (GBR), who had previously secured pole position in qualifying, were working their way to the front from the middle of the field. On lap five, Van Berkel leapfrogged ahead of Zaragoza into second place behind Nagl. The following lap, a technical issue brought Sterry’s race to a premature end. In the second half of the race, Tixier climbed into third place, followed by Stefan Ekerold (GER) on the Team Bauerschmidt MB33-Husqvarna and Miro Sihvonen (FIN) from the JWR Honda Racing Team. Tom Koch (GER) kicked off his ADAC MX Masters season with sixth place, after five weeks out through injury.

“I have not raced for seven months and am pleased to have come back with a win here. I had never ridden in Dreetz before, and have to say that it is the most tiring track on the entire ADAC MX Masters calendar, as you always have to ride with pressure on the very deep ground, in order to keep the bike stable. Tomorrow’s two races will be tough, but I like it that way,” said Nagl after his win.

ADAC MX Youngster Cup

Guillem Farres (ESP) from the Raths Motorsport team dominated race one of the ADAC MX Youngster Cup from the word go on his KTM. After claiming the Red Bull Holeshot, he raced clear of the rest of the field to take a comfortable victory. KTM VRT Norpesca Holland rider Mike Gwerder (SUI) was running second until just into the second half of the race, when a mistake led to a crash, which allowed Camden Mc Lellan (ZF) through for TBS Conversions KTM Racing. Mc Lellan had battled back from eighth place after the opening lap. Nico Greutmann (GER) and Maximilian Spies (GER) came home behind Farres, Mc Lellan and Gwerder to complete the top five, having both made mistakes while running in the top three.

ADAC MX Junior Cup 125

On lap one of the ADAC MX Junior Cup 125 race, Karlis Alberts Reisulis (LVA) on the MCJ Yamaha took the lead from Holeshot winner Bence Pergel (HUN) on a KTM run by the HTS team. Reisulis had opened a lead of more than 20 seconds over the chasing pack by the halfway point. Reigning ADAC MX Junior Cup 85 champion, Viteszlav Marek (CZE), moved into second place on lap four, but then lost this position after a crash. Pole-sitter Ivano Van Erp (NLD) found himself in a lowly 16th place after the start lap, but bounced back to take second place ahead of Julius Mikula (CZE) at the start of the second half of the race. Van Erp cut Reisulis’ lead to just three seconds by the finish, but never got close enough to launch an attack. Bence Pergel inherited third place when Mikula crashed on the final lap. Maximilian Werner (GER) from the Kosak Racing team was the best-placed German in fourth.

In the first race of the day, the holeshot went to Mark Tanneberger (GER) on a Husqvarna. However, he had lost the lead to Marius Adomaitis (LTU) from the KMP Honda Racing team by the end of the opening lap. Maxime Lucas (BEL) raced from eleventh to second place within the first three laps and put Adomaitis under pressure. A mistake from Adomaitis allowed both Lucas and Jonathan Frank (GER, Schmicker Racing) through. The trio went on to cross the finish line in this order, despite a late crash for Frank on the final lap.
