Sandro Holzem sets the pace on Friday at the Lausitzring

Sandro Holzem (22/Polch) clocked Friday’s fastest lap time in the ADAC GT Masters at the wheel of his BMW M4 GT3 Evo. The Schubert Motorsport driver set his time of 1:21.518 minutes shortly before the end of the afternoon session.

“I am really very happy with my lap time. We know that our qualifying performance is there, and we have proven that once again,” said a happy Holzem, who shares the car with his twin brother Juliano. “The focus was on long runs, in view of the two endurance races at the weekend. I expect very tough races in these high temperatures. It will very much be about management. At about 70 to 80 degrees, the temperatures in the car will also be a challenge towards the end of the race, so fitness is going to play a big role. Despite that, I hope that we have a dry race. I would rather be wet with sweat than rain.”

Like everywhere in Germany, the Lausitzring has enjoyed hot, summery weather, with air temperatures reaching 34 degrees Celsius, and the track temperature as high as 42 degrees. As well as Holzem, championship leader Felix Hirsiger (28/CHE) also coped very well with these conditions. The racer from Liqui Moly Team Engstler Motorsport went second fastest in his Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo 2, missing out on top spot by 0.235 seconds. Storm Gjerdrum (16/NOR/FK Performance Motorsport) was third fastest, 0.416 seconds back, in his BMW M4 GT3 Evo. The best-placed Ford Mustang GT3 was that of Kiano Blum (19/AUT/Haupt Racing Team) in fourth place, 0.493 seconds slower than Holzem. Rounding out the top five, 0.507 seconds off the fastest time, was Mark Kastelic (18/SLO/ Razoon - more than Racing) in his Porsche 911 GT3 R.

Local favourite Primm fastest in the morning

Local boy Simon Connor Primm (21) from Großschirma came out on top in the opening session on Friday morning. He set a time of 1:22.080 minutes in his Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo, 0.009 seconds faster than Tim Zimmermann (29/Langenargen/FK Performance Motorsport) in a BMW M4 GT3 Evo. Third place went to Niklas Kalus (21/Duisburg/Haupt Racing Team) in a Ford Mustang GT3. In fourth place was Alain Valente (29/CHE), who was called up at the last minute to drive a BMW for FK Performance Motorsport at the weekend at the Lausitzring. The fastest man of the day, Sandro Holzem, completed the top five in the morning session.

Qualifying for the first endurance race at the Lausitzring takes place at 08:25 on Saturday and will be streamed live on youtube.com/ADACMotorsports and Joyn. The race begins at 15:10 and will also be shown on ServusTV On.
