Sandro Holzem celebrates maiden pole in Zandvoort

Sandro Holzem (21/Polch) in the BMW M4 GT3 Evo will start the first ADAC GT Masters race in Zandvoort from pole position. The Schubert Motorsport driver secured the fastest lap time of 1:34.352 minutes in qualifying. Holzem, who shares the car with his twin brother Juliano (21/Polch), will be starting a race from first on the grid for the first time in his ADAC GT Masters career; this is Schubert’s ninth pole position in the ADAC’s GT3 junior league.

“I’m delighted that we have secured pole. It was an amazing lap, and the car was incredible, the team did a fantastic job,” beamed Sandro Holzem, who also got Friday’s best time in Zandvoort. “After the good performance yesterday, we knew that we had the right foundation and were confident going into qualifying. However, ultimately you also need a bit of luck and that was on our side today. The cooler temperatures suited us, but we should also be well-prepared for the race in terms of set-up. The goal is clear: We’re starting from P1 and want to finish the race in the same position.”

In summer temperatures of 20 degrees and glorious sunshine in the early hours of the morning, guest starter Alexey Nesov (22/Pure Racing) drove into second place on the grid. The Porsche driver was 0.264 seconds off the pole time. In third place was Niklas Kalus (20/Duisburg/Haupt Racing Team) in the Ford Mustang GT3. An extremely close result as in the end there were just three thousandths of a second separating Nesov and Kalus.

Tim Zimmermann (29/Langenargen/FK Performance Motorsport) qualified in fourth place. In the BMW M4 GT3 Evo he was 0.119 seconds behind the frontrunners. Championship leader Finn Zulauf (21/Königstein im Taunus/Liqui Moly Team Engstler Motorsport) crossed the finish line with the exact same time of 1:34.738 minutes. However, the Lamborghini driver set his time about a minute after Zimmermann, so this saw him qualify in fifth place.

The first race in the Netherlands gets underway at 15:10 CEST on Saturday. The first round of the ADAC GT Masters in Zandvoort will be livestreamed free and in full on Joyn, ServusTV On, and youtube.com/ADACMotorsports.
