Rookie Bönighausen sets fastest time in practice at the Red Bull Ring

Colin Bönighausen (21/Isernhagen/Razoon - More than racing) posted the fastest time of Friday’s ADAC GT Masters action at the Red Bull Ring. The rookie, at the wheel of a Porsche 911 GT3 R, stopped the clock at 1:29.248 minutes in the morning session – a time that was to prove unbeatable on the practice day. “The car basically feels very good,” said the Razoon driver. “The track had more grip, thanks to the higher temperatures and the other series. I was able to take the corners faster, as there was more rubber down. I would be delighted if we were this good again tomorrow, and could finish on the podium.”

The Red Bull Ring was the perfect stage for the season opener, with ambient temperatures around 20 degrees and track temperatures of about 40 degrees. The local favourites from Razoon fared best in these conditions, as highlighted by the fact that the second-fastest time of the day went to Bönighausen’s team-mate Leo Pichler (24/AUT), who was 0.452 seconds off top spot. Alain Valente (29/CHE/Haupt Racing Team) completed the top three in a Ford Mustang GT3, 0.458 seconds slower than Bönighausen’s fastest time.

Sandro Holzem (21/Polch/Schubert Motorsport) ended the day with the fourth-fastest time. He shares a BMW M4 GT3 with his twin Juliano, who was also quick on Friday. “The feeling is very good. We know that we are fast enough,” said Sandro Holzem. “We sorted some things out and understand what works and what doesn’t. We are definitely well prepared for qualifying tomorrow. I don’t think that the hotter temperatures necessarily suit us, but that didn’t ought to have a huge impact on the result. Many factors will play a role, but a place in the top three should definitely be possible in tomorrow’s qualifying.”
