Behind the visor: Sandro and Juliano Holzem

They share a cockpit and together scrap for every thousandth of a second out on the track – but what makes them tick away from the steering wheel. The ADAC GT Masters drivers answer personal questions about themselves and their team-mates. From cooking skills to temperament: how do the driving partners feel about each other. Today it’s the turn of twins Sandro and Juliano Holzem, who share a BMW M4 GT3 Evo for Schubert Motorsport.

Which of you is an early riser, and who prefers to sleep in?

Juliano Holzem: I wake up earlier, about 6 or 6:30. It’s just routine for me, as we both work in my father’s company and have to get up at 5:30 am. It is the same rhythm on a weekend. Sandro sometimes sleeps a little longer.

Sandro Holzem: I am capable of both. If I know that I have nothing to do on a weekend, then I will sometimes sleep in until 9 o’clock. However, as a rule I am still awake at 6 anyway, and then think to myself that I can go back to sleep again. Generally speaking, though, I also tend to get up at about 6 or 6:30.

Which of you is the better cook?

Sandro Holzem: I would say that I am. I am definitely the barbecue master. However, barbecues are pretty much the only cooking I usually do (laughs).

Who is the most impatient?

Juliano Holzem: That is definitely me. I am a very impatient person, and that is true of all aspects of life. That sometimes frustrates even me, but I cannot help it.

Sandro Holzem: I have come to accept that. I know what he is like, and have learned to cope with it.

Which of you pays most attention to detail?

Juliano Holzem: I think that is clearly me too. Whether in motorsport or everyday life, I pay attention to every detail and always want everything to be perfect.

Which of you is spontaneous, and who prefers to plan things?

Sandro Holzem: I believe that I am the more spontaneous of the two of us. However, we complement each other and try to balance each other out.

Juliano Holzem: I can also be spontaneous, but I find it better if things are planned and you know exactly what has to be done.

Which of you is most competitive?

Sandro and Juliano Holzem: There is no big difference there.

Which of you is tidier?

Sandro Holzem: It depends, but I would say that there are areas, in which I am tidier, and others, in which tidiness is more important to Juliano.

Which of you is the most punctual?

Juliano Holzem: One hundred percent me. Sandro is a nightmare (laughs).

Sandro Holzem: I have been late now and again, but not for anything important. Juliano is probably referring to when he comes to pick me up, and I am five minutes late. If I know that I have to be somewhere, then I am also punctual.

Which of you is more extrovert?

Sandro Holzem: Definitely me.

Which of you is more willing to compromise?

Sandro Holzem: I would say that is me again.

Juliano Holzem: Again, it depends on the situation – but I will admit that I find it more difficult (laughs).

Who is most impulsive?

Juliano Holzem: Once again, definitely me.

Which of you is more creative?

Juliano Holzem: It again comes down to the situation, but we are generally pretty even in this regard.

Who is happiest to take risks?

Juliano Holzem: I would say that Sandro is happier to take risks. He exercises with a torn ligament, which is very risky indeed.

Sandro Holzem: But I have the perfect coach, who tells me exactly what I can and cannot do. We are about even out on the track.

Which of you is most irritable?

Juliano Holzem: That is certainly me (laughs).

Who is the optimist, and which of you is the pessimist?

Sandro Holzem: I would say that I am the optimist, in every area of life.

Juliano Holzem: That doesn’t mean that I see everything negatively, but I am a more objective person.
