Wiebelhaus puts his Mustang on pole for second Nürburgring race

Finn Wiebelhaus (19/Obertshausen/Haupt Racing Team) set a time of 1:25294 minutes to secure pole position for the second ADAC GT Masters race at the Nürburgring. The HRT driver was 0.126 seconds faster in his Ford Mustang GT3 than team-mate David Schumacher, who completed a front-row lock-out for Ford.

“We had a really good qualifying and it was great fun,” said a beaming Wiebelhaus after taking his first pole in the ADAC GT Masters. “The team made a great tactical decision to save the fastest lap until the very end. The previous lap was good, but unfortunately we were hampered by traffic. I can hardly wait to start the race from first place this afternoon. I hope I can use my pace and a clear track to turn the race our way, then we will see how we can influence it with our strategy.”

With the sun shining and temperatures around 15 degrees, it was Simon Connor Primm (20/Großschirma/Paul Motorsport) in a Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo2 and Jannes Fittje (25/Langenhain/SR Motorsport by Schnitzelalm) at the wheel of a Mercedes-AMG GT3 who set the early pace. They ultimately ended the session in eighth and ninth place. In the final few minutes of qualifying, Ford and BMW upped their game. Schumacher, standing in for the injured Niklas Kalus at HRT this weekend, set the second-fastest time on his final lap. The two Fords will be followed into the race by three BMW M4 GT3 Evo with local favourite Sandro Holzem (21/Polch/Schubert Motorsport) and the two FK Performance Motorsport drivers Tim Zimmermann (28/Langenargen) and Julian Hanses (27/Hilden).

The second 80-minute endurance race in the ADAC GT Masters at the Nürburgring takes place at 16:10 and features two pit stops, including a driver changeover and mandatory tyre change. The race will be shown live on Sport1.de, Joyn, ServusTV ON and Youtube.com/ADACMotorsports. Anyone unable to catch the action live can also watch a full replay of the race at 22:00 on Sky Sport.
