Saturday’s winner Zulauf takes pole in Zandvoort

Finn Zulauf (20/Königsstein/Paul Motorsport) has secured pole position for Sunday’s ADAC GT Masters race at Circuit Zandvoort. The Lamborghini driver’s time of 1:41.724 minutes on a wet track put him at the top of the timings sheet. This is the second pole in just two qualifying sessions for last year’s ADAC GT4 Germany champion. The rookie and his team-mate Simon Connor Primm (20/Großschirma) had previously won the Saturday race and now start race two in Zandvoort from prime position.

“We were expecting rain earlier, which is why we went for the wet-weather tyres. I was fortunate to get my lap in at exactly the right time. Slicks may possibly have been even faster, but the risk was too great,” explained Zulauf. “We are optimistic about the race, although we have to carry success ballast after yesterday’s win. That will have an effect on tyre wear over the full distance. Our goal is to win. However, after the difficult weekend at the Lausitzring, points towards the championship are our priority.”

Alexander Fach (23/CHE/Fach Auto Tech) qualified in second place, 0.126 seconds slower than Zulauf. The Swiss, at the wheel of a Porsche 911 GT3 R, moved to the top of the timings sheet with roughly seven minutes to go. He then repeatedly impressed with top times, until he was eventually beaten by Zulauf. Rounding out the top three was Nico Hantke (21/Hürth/Scherer Sport PHX) in an Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo2.

With the track slightly damp at first, and with temperatures around 12 degrees, the teams were faced with the decision of which tyres would be best. This question became unnecessary when it started to rain more heavily as the session progressed. Finn Wiebelhaus (19/Obertshausen/Haupt Racing Team) initially took top spot in his Ford Mustang GT3, but ultimately had to settle for fourth place on the grid. Yesterday’s runner-up Leyton Fourie (19/RSA/FK Performance Motorsport) also looked a good bet for pole position at times. He will start the race from fifth place.

Sport1 will broadcast race two of the ADAC GT Masters from Zandvoort live on free-to-air TV from 14:15. The race will also be streamed live on Sport1.de, Joyn, ServusTV ON and youtube.com/ADACMotorsports.
