Connor De Phillippi wins Junior championship: Title fight in Trophy class goes to the wire

Congratulations to Connor De Phillippi on securing the first championship title of the 2016 ADAC GT Masters. The Audi driver and member of the Montaplast by Land-Motorsport squad won the newly instituted Junior class for drivers under 25 years in his very first season in the Super Sports Car League. The American can no longer be caught in the standings ahead of the final race tomorrow at Hockenheim.

"My first title in the ADAC GT Masters - that's a good in itself," said De Phillippi. "In the general classification, of course, we have scored some vital points. We have to be satisfied with second place. I had no chance against the two Porsches in the initial phase." Together with team-mate Christopher Mies, De Phillippi also leads in the drivers' standings and is all set for an even greater triumph on Sunday.

In the Trophy class for amateur drivers, Rolf Ineichen has managed to keep the outcome open. With his ninth class victory in the 13th race of the season, the GRT Grasser Racing Team squad member closed the gap on fellow Swiss driver Remo Lips (RWT Racing) and goes into the second race within striking distance. Ineichen: "We were clearly capable of finishing higher than ninth. Unfortunately, I kept getting into incidents with opponents early on in the race, as a result of which I somehow got handed a drive-through penalty. Ultimately, though, we can still feel satisfied."
