Sebastian Montoya set to join the ADAC Formula 4: Montoya Junior is looking forward to the challenge both on and off the track

Youngster with famous name is set to join the ADAC Formula 4. Sebastian Montoya, son of ex-Formula 1 driver and two-time Indy 500 champion, Juan Pablo Montoya, will line up for Italian outfit, Prema Powerteam, during the 2020 season.

14-year-old Sebastian Montoya from Colombia will be continuing a tradition that goes back a long way in ADAC Formula 4. Mick Schumacher, son of Formula 1 world champion Michael Schumacher, was also a member of the ADAC High-Speed Academy as was his cousin, David, son of ex-Formula 1 and DTM driver Ralf Schumacher.

Enzo Fittipaldi, grandson of two-time Formula 1 world champion, Emerson Fittipaldi, Arthur Leclerc, brother of Formula 1 star Charles Leclerc, Jack Doohan, son of Moto GP champion Mick Doohan, and Harrison Newey, son of Formula 1 engineer Adrian Newey also cut their teeth in the ADAC series for juniors.

Young Montoya now completes the Italian outfit's squad of four drivers for the 2020 season. Just like team-mates Gabriele Mini, Gabriel Botoleto and Dino Beganovic, he will also compete in some of the ADAC High-Speed Academy's races while contesting the full season in the Italian racing series. Season 6 will get under way at Oschersleben on the weekend of April 24th 26th. SPORT1 will again broadcast all of the ADAC Formula 4's races on TV this year.

Despite his tender years, Montoya Junior can look back on a remarkable career in karting that first began in America at the age of eight. During the last few years or so, he has also shown his enormous potential while competing in Europe and raced in the OK class during 2019.

Preparations for his first season in a single-seater are already in full swing. Montoya Junior, who will be 15 on April 11th, did a fine job out on the track during his initial test drives and impressed his team by quickly getting used to the car.

"Working with so many talented young drivers is going to be exciting, for sure!" said Team Principal, Angelo Rosin, adding, with reference to Montoya's potential: "Sebastian is a great addition to our line-up. 2020 will be a year spent learning on the job for him, but from what we've seen so far, he could soon become a top contender."

"I'm mega pleased to be lining up with such a great team and to get this chance to compete in Formula 4 in 2020," said Sebastian Montoya. "Prema are a top-class outfit and have the equipment and people that can help me learn and grow as a driver. The competition will be tough, but that's a good thing, because it will enable me to prove myself both on and off the track."

And of course, proud dad, Juan Pablo Montoya, will also be at his side as he takes his first steps in formula racing, especially in view of the fact that Montoya Senior attended quite a few ADAC Formula 4 races last season to do his own research!
