Formula 1: First Ferrari test for Mick Schumacher : Mick Schumacher will post his first laps with Ferrari as F1 test driver in April

Another ADAC Formula 4 driver is on his way into Formula 1 as Mick Schumacher comes a step closer to his dream of racing in the premier class. The ex ADAC Formula 4 driver and son of Formula 1 world record champion, Michael Schumacher, will complete his first Formula 1 test drives for Ferrari in the first week of April at the Formula 1 circuit in Sakhir following the Bahrain Grand Prix. Young Schumacher, 2018 ADAC Junior Motorsports Athlete of the Year, will test for Ferrari on Tuesday, April 2nd, and for Alfa Romeo on Wednesday, the second day of testing.

"Of course, I'm more than happy and would like to thank Ferrari for this opportunity," said 20-year-old Mick Schumacher." I'm sure it will be an amazing experience." However, before he can post his test kilometres in the Formula 1 car, he will race in the Formula 2 season opener where once again, he will go up against former ADAC Formula 4 driver Juan Manuel Correa among others. So Schumacher will have to consciously put all thoughts of testing aside. He is really looking forward to competing in his first Formula 2 race as he told us: "I intend to focus 100 percent on the Formula 2 weekend."

14 drivers have already made the move from one of the ADAC's formula racing series to Formula 1. British driver, Lando Norris, is the most recent example, driving for McLaren this year. Mick's uncle, Ralf, made his debut in the premier class in 1997. Current four-time Formula 1 world champion and ADAC Formula 4 patron Sebastian Vettel also took his first steps in formula racing in an ADAC series. He was ADAC Formula BMW champion in 2004. The list of Formula 1 drivers, who have cut their teeth with the ADAC is long. Nico Rosberg, Nico Hülkenberg, Pascal Wehrlein, Timo Glock, Christian Klien and Kevin Magnussen all raced in an ADAC formula series before graduating to the premier class.

Mick Schumacher made his formula racing debut in 2015, driving for Van Amersfoort in the ADAC Formula 4. After finishing championship runner-up in 2016 with Prema Powerteam, Mick left to join Formula 3 where he became European champion two years later. He has been a member of Ferrari's Driver Academy since January. His big ambition remains the same, to race in Formula 1.
